URGENT: Extended Freezing Temperatures Expected — Action Required Through Next Week
NOTICE FROM JANUARY 2026
We are writing to notify all residents of extended cold and icy weather expected across the Charlotte area, with forecasts showing below-freezing temperatures lasting through the end of next week. This prolonged period of cold — not just overnight lows — significantly increases the risk of frozen and burst pipes, even in homes that normally do not experience winter plumbing issues.Because temperatures are expected to remain at or below freezing for several consecutive days, these precautions must be treated as urgent and maintained throughout the entire cold weather period, not just overnight.
To help protect the property and avoid preventable damage, all residents are required to take the following actions immediately:
Required Cold-Weather Action Steps
- Disconnect all outdoor hoses
Remove and store any hoses connected to exterior faucets. Leaving hoses attached can cause water to freeze inside the wall and lead to pipe failure.
- Cover exterior faucets
Install insulated faucet covers on all outdoor spigots.
- Open sink cabinet doors
Leave cabinet doors open under kitchen and bathroom sinks—especially where plumbing is located on exterior walls—to allow warm air to circulate.
- Maintain heat at all times
Do not turn the heat off for any reason. The thermostat must remain set to no lower than 60°F, even if you are away from the home.
- Drip both hot and cold water lines
During freezing temperatures, allow a slow, steady drip from both hot and cold faucets, particularly those connected to exterior walls. Moving water is far less likely to freeze.
- Monitor plumbing closely
If you notice reduced water pressure, no water, unusual noises, or visible leaks, contact White Property Management immediately. Early reporting is critical to preventing major damage.
- Use caution with ice and snow
Walkways, steps, and driveways may become icy. Please exercise caution when entering or exiting your home. White Property Management does not provide snow or ice removal, and residents should take appropriate personal safety precautions.
Important Reminder
Failure to take reasonable cold-weather precautions may result in damage for which the resident may be held responsible, including repairs related to frozen or burst pipes.
This weather event is expected to last several days, and continued vigilance through the end of next week is essential.
We appreciate your immediate attention and cooperation in helping protect your home during this extended freeze. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office right away.
Stay warm and stay safe,
White Property Management
